Recruitment of Clerical Staff in Associate Banks of State Bank of India

Central Recruitment & Promotion Department, State Bank of India, Corporate Centre, Mumbai invites on-line applications from Indian citizens for appointment of following Clerical Cadre posts in Associate Bank of State Bank of India. Candidates are requested to apply on-line between ___ October 2010 and 01-11-2010 through Bank’s website http://www.sbi.co.in or http://www.statebankofindia.com. For applying on-line, the candidate should go to any branch of SBI, pay the amount of fees and get cash receipt with unique deposit Journal Number and depositing branch code number. This number should be correctly entered while registering an application on-line. No other means/mode of application/printout will be accepted. The existing permanent employees of any of the Associate Banks are not eligible to apply for the same post in the same Bank.

Emoluments: Selected candidates will be paid emoluments as applicable to award staff under various rules/awards/settlement in force in the employer bank from time to time. At present, the total starting emoluments of a clerical cadre employee payable are around Rs 12,100/- per month for graduates inclusive of D.A. and other allowances at the current rate and around Rs 10,000/- for non-Graduates in a metropolitan city
Eligibility criteria (as on 01.10.2010)
Educational qualification: Minimum 12th standard (10+2) or equivalent qualification thereof with a minimum of 60% marks (55% SC/ST/PwD/Ex-servicemen) or diploma course passed after 10th standard with a minimum of 60% marks (55% SC/ST/PwD/Ex-servicemen), provided (i)diploma course passed must be a full time course (diploma course through correspondence are not eligible) with a minimum of two years duration (ii) the diploma course should be recognized/approved by the state bank of technical education of the concerned state; or a degree (graduation level) from recognized university with a minimum of 40% marks (35% for SC/St/PwD/Ex-servicemen)
Age (as on 01.10.2010): Minimum 18 years, maximum age 28 years
The upper age limit will be relaxed as; SC/ST candidates 5 years; OBC candidates 3 years; PwD 10 years; Ex-servicemen- actual period of service rendered in defence services + 3 years (8 years for disabled Ex-servicemen belonging to SC/ST) subject to maximum age limit of 50 years
Nationality/citizenship: A candidate must be either (i) a citizen of India or (ii) a subject of Nepal or (iii) a subject of Bhutan or (iv) a Tibetan refugee who came over to India before 1st January, 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India or (v) a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania (formerly Tanganyika and Zanzibar), Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India, provided that a candidate belonging to categories (ii), (iii), (iv) and (v) above shall be a person in whose favour a certificate of eligibility has been issued by the govt of India. A candidate in whose case a certificate of eligibility is necessary, may be admitted to the examination/interview conducted by the Bank but on final selection, the offer of appointment may be given only after the necessary eligibility certificate has been issued to him by the govt of India
Probation period: Minimum period of 6 months. Before the probation period comes to an end, the performance of the newly recruited employees will be evaluated and the probation period of these employees whose performance fails to meet Bank’s expectation, may be extended
Selection procedure: All eligible candidates should apply on-line before the last date for registration of application Final selection will be made on the basis of performance in the written test and interview taken together. The questions in objective tests, except for the test of General English, will be printed in bilingual i.e., English and Hindi
The written test will be of objective type consisting of (i) General Awareness (ii) General English (iii) Quantitative Aptitude (iv) Reasoning Ability (v) Marketing Aptitude/Computer Knowledge
There will be negative marks for the wrong answers in the objective tests. Candidates will have to pass in each of the objective tests
Candidates in the ratio of maximum 3 times the number of vacancies will be called for interview in the order of merit, subject to their having secured at least 40% overall of marks (35% for SC/ST/OBC/ PWD/ Ex-servicemen) in (i), (ii), (iii), (iv) and (v) above besides obtaining qualifying marks in each objective type test. Bank reserves right to vary this cut off

Interviews: Depending upon the number of vacancies only certain number of candidates from amongst those who qualify by ranking high enough in the merit will be called for interview and/or proficiency test. The candidates, who qualify for interview must secure minimum marks of 40% (35% for SC/ST/OBC/PWD) to be considered for selection. Final selection will be made on the basis of candidate’s performance in the written test and interview taken together

Call letters for written examination: Candidates will be issued call letters at the correspondence address given by them in their on-line application, which will be sent by post
While registering on-line application every candidate should indicate the name of the Bank, the name of the state and the name and code number of the centre where he/she desires to take the examination. The candidate can apply for vacancies in one Bank/State only and will have to appear for written test from a centre of that particular state. The candidates will appear for the written examination from a test centre for which he/she has applied at their own expenses and risks and the bank will not be responsible for any injury or losses etc. of any nature
The associates Banks may arrange pre-examination training at certain centres for SC/ST/Religious Minority Community and Ex-servicemen candidates in consonance with the guidelines issued by govt of India. Candidates belonging to the above categories who desire to avail themselves of such training at their own cost may indicate to that effect at the appropriate column in the application. List of training centres given below is indicative. The concerned Bank has a discretion to conduct training at some additional centres or may delete some of the centres indicated for training

How to apply: Candidates are required to go to any branch of State Bank of India and pay the amount of prescribed fees and get receipt from the branch. The candidates are required to apply on-line through website www.statebankofindia.com and www.sbi.co.in. No other means/mode of application will be accepted
The last date of registering applications is 01.11.2010. Application registration on our website will be open from 01.10.2010 to 01.11.2010. Guidelines for filling application are as
Candidates should have a valid email id. This will help him/ her in getting call letter/ interview advices etc by e-mail. Candidates should have the deposit journal number and depositing branch code number (receipt of payment of fees) from branch of State Bank of India before applying online. The payment of fees should be made up to 30.10.2010. This date will be same for the candidates belonging to far-flung areas. Candidates should keep a copy of the application printout and payment receipt with deposit journal number for their record. An acquaint yourself booklet will be sent to the candidates along with the call letter for written test. Original payment receipt will have to be submitted with the call letter at the time of written examination. Candidates serving in govt/quasi govt offices, Public Sector undertaking including Nationalized Banks and financial Institutions will be required to submit no objection certificate from the employer at the time of interview, failing which their candidature may not be considered and travelling expenses, if any, otherwise admissible, will not be paid. The reserved category candidate will have to produce his/her original caste certificate/ relevant certificates at the time of interview, failing which his/her candidature shall be cancelled and he/she will not be admitted for interview. OBC candidates, availing reservation will have to produce OBC certificate with Non-creamy layer clause issued on or before 01.12.2010 at the time of interview. In addition to OBC certificate, the candidates are required to submit a declaration for availing reservation of OBC on prescribed format at the time of interview. Candidates belonging to OBC category but coming in the creamy layer are not entitled to OBC reservation and age relaxation. They should indicate their category as general or general (OH/VH/VI) as applicable. Information relating to reservations based on caste/PwD/Ex-servicemen once filled at the time of registration will be final. No further changes will be allowed. Candidates are advised to be very careful while filling the category (SC/ST/OBC/General etc) and other details in the application
No other mode of application/printout or draft etc will be accepted
